Jackye, you are really talented. I went to your web site. Nice.
>> I can only draw stick people and have an awful time with color
>> but you sure don't. I envy you. Do you also do your own digitizing?

Jackye Mills-Artist's profile:

    Personal:

I live in a beautiful part of British Columbia with a wealth of subject matter and inspiration on my door step. I juggle a full time painting career with being a wife and Mom to two teen age boys. I sold my first painting when I was 12, for the princely sum of $10.00 and exhibited at my first craft fair when I was 18. From that day to this I have been privileged to enrich my life and I hope that of my customers with the love of painting and creating something a little different and special. All product is created here in my studio. I hand paint each garment myself, and then embroider them with original designs. Another part of my business is hand painting large silk wall banners - a future page for my web site!

    Education:

  • 1972: Completed high school with scholarships and attended art school at Langara College where I studied drawing, painting, sculpture and textile design.
  • 1975-1987: I spent this time studying watercolor painting by attending various workshops and lectures in Canada and the United States. I studied under a diverse range of artists including Harry Heine, Zoltan Szabo, Frank Webb, Barbara Nechis, Allan Edwards and Brian Johnson.
  • 1987-present: In this shift to clothing and textile design I have been mostly self taught through books and endless experimentation.

Experience:

  • 1974-1987:Self employed artist, initially as a weaver and then as a watercolor artist represented by galleries in Victoria, Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary.
  • 1988-2008: After developing an interest in textiles and clothing design I began executing large silk wall banners which I sell through a number of premiere galleries on the West Coast. I also create a unique line of hand decorated clothing, each one of which I paint and embroider myself. I market my product through a number of boutiques and gift shops, a twice annual open house in my home, the Internet and major craft fairs across the country.
  • 2008 forward: Still to be determined!
